What To Look For When Buying Michael Jackson Memorabilia

July 29, 2010 by Mark Turgeon

It was a tragic day on June 25th when Michael Jackson, popularly known as the King of Pop died. Unsurprisingly, this has led to a surge in demand from fans and speculators alike, keen to purchase Michael Jackson memorabilia and effectively own a piece of music history.

Type the words unusual Michael Jackson memorabilia can show you the vast range of items that reflect the unusual and unique nature of this performer. Whether it is from a multi million dollar auction or the creative tribute of an inventive fan, there are surprise items that can brighten up any display or collection!

The first thing is to check who is selling the piece. Many internet auction sites have reputation ratings, giving you a good guide as to who can be trusted to deliver the goods. Another key thing is to check for authenticity watermarks from a trusted source, for example ABTAL.

Thriller was the biggest selling album of all time and unsurprisingly this produced a large number of spin offs, most recently a 25th year reissue with a digitally remastered soundtrack. What is more surprising is the wide variety available. For example, you can play with a Thriller jigsaw puzzle or mask odours with a Thriller air freshener.

It is increasingly popular to buy things like trading cards and bubble gum stickers, but how about an empty drinks can, plastic earrings or a dressing up kit? Like a lot of collectible items, it is worth checking their condition. Ideally you should look for rare or mint condition items. The rarest tend to be recalled items or they were designed specifically for promotional use.

This is of course not the only form of memorabilia available. There are everything from tour programs to rare 7 and 12 inch vinyls. It is worth noting different items can be described as limited edition or rare. Limited edition products are often mass manufactured, albeit with a different label. Genuinely rare pieces tend to be made for specific purposes.

Oddly enough, there is a growing trend for misspelled or test pieces. Because these are usually recalled early this means there are less of them out there, thus increasing the value.

For example, there is a difference between the original Thriller and the twenty fifth anniversary reissue. You may also get exclusive picture discs, such as the Pepsi sleeve for Bad.

In any case, before purchasing pay good attention to how someone describes the condition of their goods. If you are looking to buy memorabilia as an investment, the better the condition will mean better investment value in the future.

Perhaps this is why people seek to create collections like this, as a tribute to a performer both of his time and before it. In many ways, the true value is that in the years after his death his work is still revered by his fans and whatever the item it means something to them.

Celebrity Autographs

July 25, 2010 by Mark Turgeon

Celebrity autographs are a great souvenir for any fan. What could be better than meeting your favorite celebrity and getting their autograph? For those who aren't ever able to meet their favorite Hollywood stars, you can even purchase autographed items online from all kinds of people and websites.

The only problem with this is that sometimes you might pay for something that isn't authentic. This is why it's important for you to make sure you're buying an actual collectible and not a forgery or a fake. From posters to CD's, pictures, clothing, and more, celebrities sign just about anything, and you can add it to your collection for a nominal cost.

Tons of people sell stuff on eBay everyday. Thousands upon thousands of celebrity autographs are available from all over the world, on all different kinds of products. eBay offers a great service to their buyers and sellers; the ability to sell one-of-a-kind items in a protected environment is very satisfying to many.

There are other auction sites, as well, that sell collectibles, memorabilia, and other autographed items. You need to make sure, however, that you verify the legitimacy of the different items that you buy before you make a purchase. Nothing is worse than spending $1000 on a signed poster from your favorite celebrity only to find out that it's a fake.

Keep an open mind when purchasing autographs. If the item is to good to be true it probably is. Continue to conduct research for authentic dealers and you will find that item you are looking for. There are a handful of honest dealers in this world that specialize in celebrity autographs. Just make sure before you decide to purchase always do your research of the signature, dealer, and price and then ask your self is it worth my investment.

Many people specialize in memorabilia and celebrity signatures and you can even consult with third-party authenticators for further representation. Just make sure that before you decide to make that purchase ask yourself is it worth the investment.

If you are planning on selling your celebrity autographs or fine collectables, I recommend having it authenticated by a professional authenticator or broker. Having your item authenticated by a third-party would bring greater marketable value to your item.

By having your items professionally authenticated, your buyers will be more confident with the purchase. The true value of a signed item from your favorite celebrity is priceless, but if you have an interest in purchasing or selling your items, these are things to consider. 5 Favorite Band Memorabilia

July 22, 2010 by Missy Ray

Most of us, at least at one point in our lives, we have been fanatics of certain bands. Particularly the rock bands whose legacies have stood the test of time. Names like Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Korn, Metallica, AC/DC and many others have left their marks, not only in the music scene but also in popular culture. And these are just a few of the good reasons why they are considered legends.

We always share our fascination and the respect we have for them with our friends and even with the people that we meet each day. Although often we may not be conscious about it but in our own little ways we are spreading the word that the band we idolize is truly worthy of our time and admiration.

There are many ways on how most people showcase their admiration for a rock band. Usually it is through popular merchandise or merch as these are also called. You can have a Nirvana Merch or a Led Zeppelin Merch or for a more contemporary band, even a Parkway Drive Merch. The following is a mini list of the top souvenirs people buy to commemorate their favorite band.

1. The ever popular band t-shirts

Among the more common and favorite memorabilia are band t-shirts. They are cheap and yet of good quality. And whenever you are in a gathering celebrating the music of your favorite band, you will always fit right in because of your comfortable and cool band t-shirt.

2. Hoodies are popular too

Next to the band t-shirts, hoodies are also a popular choice. However, it also depends on the genre of the band that you admire whether that band's logo or the images of the members will look perfect printed on a hoodie. Of course a hoodie has more uses compared to a t-shirt because it has a hood that can keep your head dry during a mildly wet evening at a rock concert.

3. Music CDs

What good is your admiration to your favorite band if you do not have a collection of their songs? Music labels have commemorated these legendary bands by releasing CDs that feature the best songs of these bands. However, if you are a real fanatic, you would certainly have your own collection of their individual albums and not just the compilations.

4. Stickers, buttons and badges.

These you can put on almost anywhere: your car, backpack, guitar, and others. If you have an object that you would like to make an band souvenir of your admiration to your band, putting a sticker on it or a badge or button will do the job. A simple looking knapsack when pinned with a button can quickly become a Nirvana material.

5. Rock band posters

Every fan of any rock band will certainly have a poster or two put up in his room. Maybe that is how much we adore these celebrities that even when we wake up or go to bed, it is the faces of the members of our favorite band that we first see in the morning or the last that we see before we sleep.

There are other ways or souvenirs that fans create or buy to remember the rock bands that they adore. If you firmly believe in the music and the message that your band sends out to the world, maybe it's about time you wear a band t-shirt today.

How To Choose Display Cabinets

July 21, 2010 by Cordell Colley

Do you have a collection of valuable items, long stored away and finally have you been collecting trucks since childhood? Teacups from each city you have visited? Or maybe you have a collection of antique dolls that warrant a central spot in your living room. More likely still, are you a busy mom with armfuls of trophies and ribbons that are in need of a (democratic) display case?

Whether you have just a corner free in your living room, or you are creating an entire space for your most prized possessions, display cabinets come in every size and shape, and there's surely one for you. But when thinking of which type to choose, how does one choose between the wealth of options? It is best to first think of what you will be displaying and then go from there.

Antiques are best coupled (and best preserved) with glass-enclosures, ensuring your cherished goods their time in the spotlight, with limited chance of damage. Pair your antiques with an stylish colored wood, for example a cherry wood finish or an oak one, for a stunning display. To allow plenty of light (and attention) to flow in, choose a mirrored backing. Glass shelving allows for even more visibility, while light from the bottom will leave your collection shining. Shorter display cabinets can be stacked, if height is desired but doorways won't permit a single unit from entering. You can also then have choice if at some point you want to redesign the room.

If space is not an issue, entire open-faced options, like an etag're, are great options for much less precious collections, such as clocks or globes. Especially for items that beg to be touched, like family trophies or old family photographs, an available display will keep your goods off the ground without setting them off-limits. However, if certain objects are much more fragile than others, place them out of eyesight, so at the highest point, while putting much more child-friendly objects on the lowest levels.

If your higher definition TV's and cutting-edge stereo equipment are in need of display cabinets, an entirely different look will be in order. Sleek apparatuses will be much much better paired with black cabinets, if a modern feel is wanted. Your unit can also house minimal accents like stylish vases and a simple sculpture. But if cozy is what you want, instead of black, choose a warm colored wood case with adjacent nooks. Fill cubbies with family heirlooms to play down the high-tech edge of your flat-screen. Or choose a fireplace hutch and let your TV hang above the glow like a modern day piece of art. Since large CRT based rear projection TVs are a thing of the past, take advantage of the many brand new options for housing your sleeker TV. Credenzas, often made of a polished wood with symmetrical display cabinets, can serve as a central cupboard and a home to your flat-screen.

Gone are the days of one proper way to furnish your home, or display your most beloved objects. Display cabinets nowadays come in every shape and size. More than interior decorating rules and do's-and-don't's. choose your casing according to your family's personality, and the objects that you wish to display.

Porcelain Dolls – Great Collector’s Item

Porcelain dolls have been around for longer than most people realize.

While most of them are modeled after children, you will also be able to find those that are modeled after adults. Many of the ones that you will find are masterfully handcrafted and look almost just like real people. What attracts most people to porcelain dolls is the fact they look so realistic.

Century after century, year after year, it seems, that these dolls have been the center of many people's art collections and lives. It is due to their elegance.

What is most interesting about porcelain dolls is the quality that most of them are made in. While it is possible to find cheaper ones, the more elaborate dolls will cost you hundreds of dollars. This is because they are handcrafted to look exactly a way that the creator meant them to, which makes them special to both person crafted them as well as the people who purchased them. The ones that are less expensive will be less detailed and can be found at your standard department stores, but the ones that are painstakingly crafted and look as realistic as possible must be bought from specialty stores or from the people who make themselves.

Because of the amount of care that goes into making them and their distinct look, there are thousands of collectors of these types of dolls all across the world. These collectors will go to any extent to get the dolls, and then they will take as much care of them as possible. This is great, considering the amount of love that goes into each doll that is made. What's more, is that this is an art. Creating each doll to look exactly one way or another takes time and dedication, and each artist that makes dolls made of porcelain puts their heart and soul into them.

You can even find enthusiast groups of these types of dolls.

If you or your kid want to start a do it withion, porcelain dolls are a great item to do it with.

Autographed Guitars: Real Or Fake?

July 18, 2010 by Mark Turgeon

If you are not a memorabilia specialist it may be hard to prove the authenticity of autographed guitars. There are ways to find out the legitimacy of a signed guitar if youre not sure yourself. Methods can be taken depends on your position in the memorabilia world.

If you own a signed guitar, but aren't sure of the validity of the signature, or how to prove it to others when you want to sell, there are plenty of brokers and dealers that can help you authenticate your item and provide certificates of authenticity. If you're looking to purchase a signed guitar, you need to first be sure that you're buying it from a reputable dealer or memorabilia expert, and that it has documentation of its validity.

If you own autographed guitars and want to authenticate them, either for your own personal knowledge or to sell, there are many resources for you. You can contact a dealer or guitar memorabilia broker, and they will help you to validate the legitimacy of the signature(s) that you have. You can also provide proof including photos of the signing process or a document signed by a memorabilia professional or other professional that you've acquired on your own.

Another way to have your item authenticated is to send it to a professional handwriting expert that deals with signatures.

Music artists rarely sign guitars compared to albums and posters or other small memorabilia products.

If you are not a record label or charitable event, many artists will deny signing your guitar. Every fan wants a guitar signed by their favorite band or artist, because that is the most elite memorabilia item to own. Since the demand is high for signed guitars, this creates a market of forgeries and scam artists prey on fans or the less educated for thousands of dollars for autograph memorabilia.

There are many fake autographs in the world and its necessary to take the proper actions and research for obtaining the authenticity and legitimacy for the special memorabilia piece you may consider purchasing. Always buy from a reputable dealer or auction house and do the research on that person to see if they are honest and have nothing to hide.

If you see a signed guitar or other autographs that you are interested in and ready to buy, be sure to consult with the dealer and do research on that person and also take further steps to contact other opinions about the item. I look at it if you are serious enough to spend thousands of dollars on that particular memorabilia piece then you can put the time and effort to check its legitimacy.

Before you buy any signed signature or other fine autographed memorabilia, make sure you check out Mark Turgeon's site on autograph, and signedmemorabilia

Abraham Lincoln’s Life And Legacy Depicted On Coins

July 17, 2010 by Robert Chase

In 2009, the country celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of the 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. To mark the occasion, several different circulating and commemorative coins were issued. This included four pennies carry different reverse designs and a dollar coin struck in a composition of 90% silver.

To celebrate the centennial of Lincoln's birth in 1909, the Lincoln one cent coin was introduced to the public. The series continued to be minted each year with a new reverse design in 1959 and the four new reverse designs issued in 2009 for Lincoln's bicentennial. The four different designs represent four different stages of Lincoln's life.

The first of the four different reverse designs for the Bicentennial Lincoln Cents depicts a simple log cabin. This represents his birth and childhood in the state of Kentucky. The second design presents a scene of young Abe Lincoln taking a break from splitting logs to read a book. The next design in the series depicts Lincoln during his professional years when he practiced law in Illinois. The final design represents Lincoln's presidency in Washington, DC with a view of the half completed Capitol Dome.

A commemorative silver dollar coin was also produced for the occasion of Lincoln's Bicentennial. This coin was struck in 90% silver and 10% copper and limited to a total mintage of 500,000 coins. The obverse presented a portrait of Lincoln, displaying his strength and resolve. The reverse of the coin featured the final words of the Gettysburg Address. This is one of Lincoln's most famous and well known speeches.

As a final send off to Lincoln's Bicentennial celebration, one more reverse design will be introduced in 2010. This design will depict the Union Shield as a way of representing Lincoln's preservation of the United States of America as a single and united country. For the foreseeable future this depiction of the Union Shield will be used for the reverse design of the circulating one cent coin.
